2.1 Manufacturer

2.2 Materials

A.  High density polyethylene vapor barrier

1.   Description: Three layer coextruded biaxially oriented polyethylene membrane

2.   Water vapor transmission ASTM E – 96 less than or equal to 0.009 g / m2 *h

3.   Tensile strength ASTM D – 882 minimum 48 lbs / in

4.   Permeance ASTM E – 96 less than or equal to .012 perms

5.    Puncture resistance ASTM D – 1709 greater than or equal to 2408 grams

2.3 Accessories

A.  Seam tape 1. 8 mil PVC tape with rubber/resin adhesive. Tensile strength not less than 22 lbs./inch minimum per ASTM D 882. Minimum width of 4 inches.

B.  Pipe Boots 1. Follow manufacturers instruction to construct pipe boots with vapor barrier membrane and seam tape


Part 3 Execution

3.1 Examination

A.  Examine surfaces to receive membrane. Notify architect if surface is not acceptable

3.2 Surface Preparation

A.  Tamp and level or roll surface to receive membrane

3.3 Application

A.  Installation of vapor barrier

1.  Install vapor barrier in accordance with ASTM E 1643-93 and manufacturer’s instructions

2.  Unroll vapor barrier with longest run in pour direction

3.  Lap vapor barrier over footings

4.  Seal vapor barrier laps to foundation walls

5.  Vapor barrier should be overlapped four inches at joints and sealed with Barrier-Bac Inc.’s seaming tape

6.  All penetrations must be sealed with pipe boot made using vapor barrier membrane and seam tape

7.  Seal all damaged areas in vapor barrier with membrane patch according to manufacturer’s instructions

A.  Protect membrane from damage until placement of concrete
